Working out is important to your overall health and well-being. But choosing the best home workout program for you is a key factor in whether or not you’ll stick with it. If you start with a program that’s too difficult or that you don’t enjoy, you are far less likely to press play on your DVD player. I’ve tried and completed a ton of home fitness programs and have compiled a list of my 5 favorites. Hopefully this research will help you choose the best home workout program for you.

1. P90X: I know this is a bit of a cliche at the moment since this Tony Horton fitness program is all the rage everywhere at the moment, but it’s all the rage for a reason. It’s the best home workout program I’ve ever done. It’s intense, it’s hard, and it’s fun. This guy knows his stuff and he’s funny as heck to work out with. The program has 12 DVDs so you’ll never get bored and it’s full of simple-to-do, yet difficult on the muscles, moves to do. One day you’ll be using resistance bands and doing push-ups to build muscle, and the next day it’s an hour of heart-pounding plyometrics. This workout program has got it going on!

2. Turbo Fire: This is a pretty new addition to the home fitness world, but the creator of it, Chalene Johnson is not. It’s definitely geared towards women, but it’s a ton of fun for anyone and it works really well. Chalene is beautiful and she’s excited about what she does and it shows in the workouts. This program features 11 videos and a lot of them include high intensity interval training, which really does wonders for toning muscle and burning fat. Each of the HIIT moves lasts for a minute – which is perfect for someone with ADD. Most of the workouts in this series last between 25 – 40 minutes which is great for someone a little pressed for time. There are a few longer workouts, but the majority of the workouts are well under an hour. Each day also includes at least 10 minutes of intense stretching which is one of my favorite things to do.

3. Insanity: By far, the hardest home workout program I’ve ever done. The inventor of this program, Shaun T is a choreographer who has worked with quite a few famous faces and he really knows his stuff. There are 10 DVDs total in the series and each one pushes you harder than the last. Insanity is part of a 60-day program and for those who complete it, a body change is inevitable. This may not be the best program for someone who is just starting to work out or for people who have a lot of weight to lose. It can be done, but people who are beginning their fitness journey may enjoy something a bit more tame at first.

4. 10-Minute Trainer: Another one of the best home workout programs for me is the 10-Minute Trainer. It’s another program by fitness guru Tony Horton and it actually does provide a really high-quality, intense workout in just 10 minutes a day. It’s perfect for starters, and because there’s really no equipment required to do it (a resistance band is included and recommended), it can easily be done when on the road. When I travel, these are the workouts that I’m doing in my hotel.

5. Brazil Butt Lift: I may be partial to this home workout program because Leandro Carvalho is extremely cute, but it’s really a great program for sculpting one’s butt. It works other body areas too, but this program made me like by behind again and that means it has to be on my top 5 list of best home workout programs. The program comes with 3 different DVDs that are fun to do. Another major selling point of this fitness program is the fact that most of the workouts are only 20 or 30 minutes, but the results are still amazing if you choose to really work the program. This one is extremely popular with the ladies!

Choosing the best home workout program for you really depends on what it is you enjoy doing and what results you are trying to achieve. Take the time to research programs so you end up purchasing something you really enjoy!
